Dear Editor,

The selection of a VP for Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney has reached a fever pitch. Among the names being mentioned are Senator Marco Rubio and Rep. Paul Ryan.

However, a groundswell of interest surrounds the name of Senator Jon Kyl (R-AZ).

Senator Kyl has announced his retirement at the end of the term. During his career, he has earned respect on both sides of the aisle and would bring his vast knowledge and expertise in foreign affairs to the Romney ticket. Kyl would put America’s interests first. He would be a formidable adversary in the eyes of any foreign government and would command the respect of any leader on the world stage. He is calm, articulate, and would be steadfast in his devotion to this country. Isn’t it time we had a statesman like Senator Jon Kyl play a central role in American government?

Flo Alexander,
