Last I checked three squares were out and six mini meals were in, but it’s not always easy to fit in such a busy meal plan. Just last week I was swamped at my day job and missed first breakfast, second breakfast and early lunch. Before I knew it, 1:00 rolled around and I was ravenous. The only thing left in my hidden stash were a few stale crackers, which I quickly stuffed in my mouth only to be left completely unsatisfied … and thirsty.

As I attacked the water cooler, my coworker suggested that we order from Red Fish Pizza Company since they deliver. We Googled the name, found their menu and called to place our order. The lady on the phone was friendly and told us our food should arrive within 20 minutes. About 30 minutes later, linner (that meal between lunch and dinner) was served.

We decided to split a small 10-inch All Meat Pizza ($10.95) with added jalapeños ($1.25) and a Roma Special Panini ($6.95), dressed for an extra 50 pennies. My taste buds quivered in delight as I took my first bite of the Italian sandwich. A multitude of salty meats – pepperoni, salami, Canadian bacon and ham – are layered with mozzarella cheese, black olives, sautéed onions, tomatoes, lettuce, mayonnaise and Italian dressing. It’s a good-sized sandwich for the price and the bread has a nice crunch and is able to withstand the copious amounts of juices excreting from the meats.

The pizza crust, on the other hand, is not as stable. While the crust tastes homemade (a plus) it lacks the ability to hold back the flow of grease from its toppings (a negative). Even the cardboard box struggled as made evident by the glistening sheen on the conference table where the box once lay. I can honestly say that I have never before had to blot the bottom of a pizza. My coworker even quipped that we should call in BP to bring over some boom.

All joking aside, the flaccid pizza was still pretty delicious thanks to the zesty tomato sauce, creamy mozzarella and plentitude of quality toppings, which included the usual meaty suspects, pepperoni and Italian sausage, as well as Canadian bacon, ground beef and breakfast bacon.

After our artery-clogging meal, a nap was desired but it was back to work for us. While I did not meet my nutritional needs that day (when do I really ever), I was left full and happy, which is good enough for me.

Greasy? Sure, but Redfish’s all-meat pie is worth an occasional break from healthy fare.
