Five Nicholls State University football players were honored this week with spots on the preseason All-Southland Conference Teams.

This teams are voted on by coaches in the conference, though returning players who earned All-Conference distinction the season prior automatically are placed onto the team.

Nicholls had three players on the first team – two on defense and one on offense.

Sophomore defensive lineman Sully Laiche earned his bid after recording 60 tackles and 9.5 stops as a freshman, solidifying himself as one of the top players in the Football Championship Subdivision.

In the secondary, the Colonels were also represented with defensive back Christian Boutte earning first-team honors after scoring three interceptions for the team in 2016.

Offensively, Bourg native and junior offensive lineman Chandler Arceneaux was a first-team pick after a dominant sophomore season at right tackle last year.

On the second team, the Colonels had both an offensive and defensive player.

Offensive lineman Ryan Hanley earned his place after starting all 22 games of his career in Thibodaux.

Sophomore linebacker Allen Pittman was also honored after leading Nicholls in tackles in 2016 with 95.
