Add another record to Drew Brees’ historic career.

He now is the NFL’s all-time leader for most consecutive games with a passing touchdown.

The Saints’ quarterback hurled his way past Johnny Unitas and again etched his name into the record books in the first quarter of Sunday night’s win against the San Diego Chargers, hurling a 40-yard strike to former LSU star Devery Henderson – the 48th-straight game Brees recorded a touchdown pass.

The Saints’ quarterback finished Sunday’s game 29-of-45 with 370 yards and four touchdown passes.

“First of all, this is a team record,” Brees told NBC Sports immediately following the team’s 31-24 win. “This is not an individual record. So many people are responsible for this on our team. … It couldn’t have happened in a better way.”

Brees’ record-setting pass came on a 3rd-and-6 play with the Saints’ trailing 7-0 late in the first quarter.

The quarterback dropped to pass and pump-faked to Henderson who appeared to be running a hook pattern.

After the fake, Henderson streaked to the end-zone free of the defense and waltzed in for six points.

The score sent the Superdome crowd into hysteria.

Among those seated in the stadium to see it all unfold were Saints’ suspended head coach Sean Payton, assistant coach Joe Vitt and general manager Mickey Loomis.

They were able to attend the game after Brees personally wrote a letter to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and asked that the suspended trio be allowed to return to their stomping grounds for one night to witness history.

“I love my coach,” Brees said, appearing to fight back tears. “I’m so glad that he could be here with Mickey and Joe Vitt, as well. It was special for our team and it was special that they could be a part of this night with the record. I’m just overcome with emotion right now.”

Brees and the Saints will have a week to overcome their record-setting high.

The team has a bye week this week and will return to action two Sundays from now against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Following the game against Tampa Bay, the Saints’ schedule will stiffen.

The team will play a road tilt with the Broncos, followed by consecutive home games with the Eagles and Falcons.

The Saints also play games with the 49ers, Giants and Cowboys later in the season.

“Hopefully, we can get this one and go on a run,” Brees said.
