At every National Signing Day press conference of his multi-year tenure, Nicholls State football coach Charlie Stubbs has cautioned to fans and reporters that the team’s list of signees is incomplete because of additional scholarships the team keeps in pocket to lure transfers from other programs.

Two of those transfers in the 2014 season will come from the University of Colorado – each landing in Thibodaux with one year of eligibility remaining.

The Colonels’ football program announced this week that Colorado wide receiver Keenan Canty and linebacker Lowell Williams Jr., had transferred to the team and will be eligible immediately.

The players both played three seasons at Colorado and will have just the 2014 season to compete for the Colonels.

In Canty, the Colonels will receive much-needed depth at a wide receiver position that the Colonels have been trying to polish throughout Stubbs’ entire tenure. A 5-foot, 9-inch, 165-pound standout, Canty was a three-year letterwinner in four seasons with the Buffaloes, playing 34 games for the team. During his career with the PAC-12 school, Canty caught 19 passes for 210 yards. Canty redshirted his first season on the campus in 2010.

Canty was one of Colorado’s best special teams players throughout his collegiate career, thanks in part to his pedigree as a track and field standout at Edna Karr High School in his native New Orleans.

Canty has already earned his degree from Colorado. He graduated earlier this month.

While Canty lands in Thibodaux with rich Louisiana ties, Williams will arrive as a player who grew up in our neighbor state to the West.

The 6-foot, 1-inch, 205-pound linebacker is a native of Missouri City, Texas. Like Canty, he, too, was a redshirt in 2010. Williams played in 23 games for Colorado, mostly serving as one of the team’s special teams players.

The future Nicholls’ linebacker had a breakout spring for the Buffaloes in 2013, leading the team in tackles and then earning the Iron Buffalo Award, an honor given to Colorado workout warriors.
