By the time this newsletter hits email inboxes on Friday morning, Nicholls State University’s men’s and women’s basketball teams will have started Southland Conference play.

Now, the Colonels are looking to build on game one with an important Saturday date against Incarnate Word.

The Colonels faced Northwestern State on Thursday night. No score was available at the time we completed our newsletter.

But the teams will be back at it against the Cardinals on Saturday – the men playing at home in Stopher Gym and the women on the road in Texas.

Both of Nicholls’ teams are hopeful for success in the new year.

The men were 6-7 in pre-conference play, led by seniors Roddy Peters, Tevon Saddler, Lafayette Rutledge and others.

The women were 5-6 in non-Southland competition, led by Vandebilt Catholic graduate Cassidy Barrios. She leads the Colonels in every, single statistical category – points, rebounds, assists, blocks and steals.

The men will tip-off on Saturday at 6 p.m. The women will play at 1 p.m.
