After a nightmarish start to the season, the Nicholls State University baseball team got some much-needed momentum against Sacred Heart.

The Colonels swept a two-game slate with their non-conference foe, winning Tuesday’s game 21-6, then completing the sweep Wednesday in a 10-0 shutout.

The Colonels outhit Sacred Heart 10-5 in Wednesday night’s win and were the beneficiary of 5 errors.

With the wins, Nicholls is now 3-10 on the season – some much-needed momentum before a weekend slate against Northwestern State.

“I think our guys kind of went back to their foundation,” Colonels coach Seth Thibodeaux said. “There are a lot of things that go into it. Some guys are getting healthy. This group has hung in there in the tough times.”

Four pitchers combined in Nicholls’ shutout, led by starter Bryan Taylor, who struck out eight batters in four innings.

The three-game series with Northwestern is in Thibodaux.

Friday and Saturday’s games are at 6 p.m.

Sunday’s game is a 1 p.m. matinee.
