Nicholls is expected to repeat as Southland Conference Champions.

The Colonels were picked as the favorites for the 2019 Southland Conference football season this morning in a poll voted on by the league’s head coaches and sports information directors.

The Colonels garnered 20 of the 22 first-place votes, securing 200 total points in the poll.

That was easily enough to outlast Central Arkansas, which finished second with 154 total points.

Incarnate Word and Abilene Christian secured the other first-place votes. They’re picked to finish third and 7th, respectively, in the league.

That Nicholls was picked to be the league’s best is no surprise. The Colonels had 11 Preseason All-Southland picks – the most of anyone in the conference.

The format of the poll is as follows. Each voter ranks their predicted order of regular season finish, not including their own team. First-place votes are worth 10 points, second-place votes are worth nine and so on to one point for 10th place.
