The Nicholls State University volleyball team has completed its staff for the 2017 season.

Colonels coach Tommy Harold announced this week that Jacqueline Cason has joined the program as assistant coach.

Cason, a former decorated player at UTEP, brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Colonels, according to Harold, who said he’s excited to have the new coach on staff.

“We’re rolling at full speed, so having her jump in has been good,” Harold said. “Having an extra set of eyes in the gym, it’s always good for the girls to get feedback from some different voices. I think she’s going to be a real positive addition for us.”

Cason was one heck of a player.

She was an outside, middle and right-side hitter for UTEP – her career beginning in 2010.

Cason served as team captain her senior season and totaled more than 100 kills in every collegiate season.

She also gave back while in college. Cason amassed more than 250 hours of community service during her career with the Minors and was on the honor roll every semester of her career. She graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering from UTEP.

After graduation, Cason got into coaching and spent time as the head JV and assistant varsity volleyball coach at Sacred Heart Academy in Louisville. Her JV squad had the best record in the state. As an assistant with the varsity team, Cason helped the team win the state title.
