The Nicholls State University athletic department is bringing back men’s track and field.

And the Colonels are looking for inaugural members of the new, upstart team.

Nicholls will hold its second try-out for its new men’s track program on Tuesday at 3 p.m. at John L. Guidry Stadium. 


Interested participants will be competing in sprints, hurdles, jumps and distance events throughout the day. 

To try out, interested participants must meet all of the following requirements.

-Enrolled as full-time Nicholls student


-Started college within the past 4 years

-have general medical physical and orthopedic physical forms completed by a physical and turned into athletic training staff prior to attending the tryout. Those forms are available at www.geauxcolonels.com

-Bring valid insurance card to be copied front and back by the athletic training department prior to attending tryout.


-Freshmen will be required to meet NCAA Division I Qualifier status based on high school transcripts and test scores. 

-Contact coach Stefanie Slekis or Braylon Taylor prior to Tuesday to make sure requirements are fulfilled. 

Participants are asked to wear appropriate athletic apparel for the conditions, including running shoes. Attendees should also bring spikes and/or competition shoes if they have some available.
