H.L. Bourgeois has hired its new football coach from within.
The Braves announced this past week that they’ve selected Ryan Fournier as the man who will replace Carey Melvin, who resigned from his post just before spring practices.
Fournier is a local. He is a graduate of South Lafourche High School.
The new Braves coach is a veteran assistant coach who has spent time at several schools around the state in recent years, including with the Tarpons, but also at Destrehan and the Braves.
The H.L. Bourgeois job is not an easy one. The Braves struggled mightily last year and annually, the team plays a murderous schedule in District 7-5A, competing with the likes of Destrehan, Hahnville, East St. John and Thibodaux, among others.
