I love to be unbothered as much as anyone.

My favorite pastime is lying in my bed at 1-2 a.m. watching NetFlix. In such a fast-paced job with so many moving parts, those rare 1-2 hours a day or quiet and silence are cherished.

These past few weeks have been mostly glorious. School is out and that idle time has grown.

I’ve had no games to actively cover, no late nights (except for Hurricane Barry) and there’s been more peace and quiet.

But … umm … there’s a problem.

For as much as I love rest and relaxation, I equally love being a road runner who lives life on the go. The past few weeks have been nice, sure, but it’s time for summer to end and school sports to begin!

I guess the easiest way to say this is this: I’m bored, guys!

I have nowhere to go, no action to see.

I’ve not taken a sports-related action photo since Swamp Land Baseball in late-June.

It’s time to change that — and soon.

Fortunately, change is in the air. After a little time away, high school football teams are going to be hitting the practice fields to get ready for the upcoming season.

And oh, what a season it’s going to be.

I can make a case for literally every, single local football team in 2019.

The Class 5A District is loaded. By now, everyone locally knows about Terrebonne’s successes, and all of that credit is warranted. The Tigers have college-level talent and special players all over the field.

But let me tell you all something — Thibodaux will be really good in 2019, too, as will Central Lafourche.

And look, people are sleeping on H.L. Bourgeois because they had a tough year last year. But I’m telling you guys right now that they have talented players, a good system and a good coach. I expect them to be very strong this fall.

For as powerful as the Class 5A District will be, I think a lot of our local eyes will be on 4A where parity rules the day.

I ask our readers: “Who is the best team in the local Class 4A District?”

I think if we walk the streets locally and ask 100 people, we may get a whole slew of different answers.

The favorite is probably Assumption. They’ve been a powerhouse and they have talent returning.

But what about Vandebilt Catholic? They were young last year and have a first-year coach. They will be solid. What about South Terrebonne? They made the playoffs last year and return a lot of their core.

What about Ellender? What about South Lafourche?

Both teams struggled last season, but have talent and hunger to try and turn that around.

A former member of the Class 4A district is E.D. White and they, too, are an intriguing team to follow in 2019 because former coach Kyle Lasseigne is back in charge and the Cardinals’ numbers are huge.

In Class 1A, we’re also excited to see how CCA and Houma Christian do. Both have achieved so much in their short athletic histories.

But the purpose of this column is not to just brag on football. We’re excited for every fall sport!

Volleyball locally is awesome. Several teams are annual contenders to make it to the Pontchartrain Center for the State Tournament. Likewise, we have several aces in cross country — contenders to push for the state crown.

We will be at as many of those memory-making events as we can, but we know we will need help, as well.

We’ve heard your cries for more expansive local coverage in athletics and we want to throw as wide a web as we can in this next phase of our newspaper’s evolution.

But with the limited manpower we have, we know this will be a challenge.

So if you’re at a ballgame and we’re not, send us a photo or two (if you can). If not, we’d welcome a score or a short recap sent to casey@rushing-media.com.

If you know of a team or a player excelling, please don’t assume we’re aware of his/her successes. Let us know.

We take pride in being accessible to the public we serve and we want to be part of this journey — alongside our local teams.

It’s a new season for local teams, and it’s a new season for us, at Rushing Media, too.

We, like you, are excited to be part of it all.

Let’s ride!
