Dear friends and family,

When we last wrote, I was telling you all that we were preparing to play a winner-take-all first-round playoff game with Juncos.

Drum-roll, please!?

We WON! We are now in the semifinals of our league!

Our last game with Juncos was so much different than any of the other games we’ve played with them – we completely changed our game plan and strategy.

Juncos is a guard-oriented team that likes to pick up the tempo and play fast.

In the first two games, they somewhat dictated the tempo and kept us out of rhythm with their speed.

But in Game 3, we continually got the ball into the post and pounded them in the paint. It worked and we were blessed with the opportunity to keep playing (more about our current plans later).

Away from basketball for a minute, let me tell you about my week.

When I was in college, I loved game day – it really felt like it flied by because of classes, homework and our early tip-off times.

In Puerto Rico, we do not start our games until fricken’ 8 p.m. I often find myself restless and listless all day long, impatiently waiting for our games.

But this week, I discovered a trick. It’s a trick that I wish I would have been using my entire time in Puerto Rico.

The night before games, I am now staying up super late. I am physically pushing my body until I cannot stay up any longer.

I know you’re probably thinking to yourself that this is a terrible idea the night before a game, but please hear me out.

Because I go to sleep late, I then am blessed with the ability to sleep-in. I don’t wake up sometimes until around noon or 1 p.m.

That makes my days feel so much shorter and I am now back in my old college routine. That, my friends, is a true blessing, because I am not a patient woman on game day! I want to go out and play!

Speaking of playing, we are currently tangling with the No. 1 team in our league, a squad called Quebradillas.

The strange thing about their team is that if you walk into the gym and look at their players, you wouldn’t think that they are elite at all.

No one on their team is abnormally big size-wise, and their players are not ridiculously talented.

But they are so sound as a unit on both offense and defense. They are a true team. Defeating them will be a whale of a challenge for us.

I sure look forward to trying, though!

Like I said in my diary last week, I love the playoffs!

Thanks and God Bless,

-SL7
