The LA6-14U Travel Volleyball Team has had one heck of a season!

The team scored a championship victory in a tournament on March 11 in Napoleonville, defeating local rivals along the way in a hard-fought day on the court.

The team has been together since Nov. 2016 – the month of tryouts.

Since then, the team has competed around the Gulf Coast, placing 5th (out of 29 teams) in New Orleans, 5th (out of 20 teams) in Lafayette, 5 (out of 27 teams in Mississippi and 2nd (out of 23 teams) at a tournament in Pensacola.

The team also recently competed in Daphne, Alabama.

According to those close to the team, the LA6 relies on heart.

Coaches by John and Tina Breaux, the team believes that off-court success is what matters most, and that on-court success will follow if players practice the right things in their day-to-day lives.

After winning the tournament in Napoleonville, the coaches were asked to pick an MVP player for the event.

Coach Tina Breaux decided to pick from the heart.

“I thought about it and decided my whole team was the MVP, and I picked all of them,” the coach said.

Competing at a high level is something the LA6 has done all season.

During a two-day event in Pensacola, the team had on-court success, punching a ticket to the Final 4 of the prestigious field.

Those games were set to be played on a Sunday, so in between games, the girls made the independent decision to attend a non-denominational church service together as a team – something John Breaux said he’d not ever seen before from a group of kids that age.

“I really don’t care how the rest of the day goes,” John Breaux remembers saying after leaving service on that day. “We’ll do our best, but these young ladies have made my day already.”

The team ended up finishing that tournament as the runner-up.
