Pads were popping across the playing fields of every Lafourche and Terrebonne Parish high school last week, as 2014 spring practices came and went without a hitch.
Check that, they officially started last week on April 28 – the first date allowed for teams to practice per the Louisiana High School Athletic Association’s rules.
But for a football-starved community like South Louisiana, any football at all is worth mentioning.
Coaches always downplay spring, touting in coachspeak that the spring practices are more about conditioning and repetition, adding that a lot of the crucial playing time and depth chart decisions will be made in the fall – a time when things rev up and get a little bit more serious.
But with all of that said, the LHSAA put a giant cherry atop the spring football season this week by unveiling the 2014 prep football schedules for all local teams.
There were no major surprises in the list, as most teams are in year two of their home-and-home non-district game contracts.
But for those needing a bit of a reminder of what’s in store, the schedule release comes as welcome news.
Here are the football schedules for all of our area’s 11 local programs. For schools like South Terrebonne, Covenant Christian and Houma Christian with open dates, more games could be added in the future as the season draws near.
