The Louisiana High School Athletic Association levied severe punishments against Hahnville High School’s football team on Wednesday evening.

The ripple from the sanctions roll right through Houma – the effects greatly impacting the athletic future of a familiar local face.

The association has suspended Hahnville football coach Nick Saltaformaggio for four games, while fining the school’s football program $2,500 for recruiting violations.

But at the center of the investigation is Hahnville senior quarterback Andrew Robison, who has been ruled ineligible for the entire 2018 season as part of the decision. Robison transferred to the Tigers’ program in the spring from Vandebilt where he’s been a standout player for the past two seasons.

The LHSAA investigation has centered around Robison’s move from Vandebilt to Hahnville. The move was made because Andrew’s father, Drew Robison, was relieved from his duties as Vandebilt’s boys’ basketball coach. At the time of the decision, Robison said the family intended to seek housing in the River Parish area.

The family lived in Houma during his tenure as Vandebilt’s coach.

The father also said he intended to try and coach as an assistant boys’ basketball coach at Hahnville. As of Aug. 23, 2018, he is not listed on the LHSAA website as being part of Hahnville’s staff.

Hahnville has filed an emergency appeal to try and sway the LHSAA to change its decision. The school hopes that the decision will be heard before the start of football season next week.

Saltaformaggio lauded Robison’s work ethic during an interview with The Times this past summer. He said that the senior came into new surroundings and did an excellent job putting in work with his teammates.

“He’s a leader,” Saltaformaggio said. “He’s been new to our locker room, but he’s been willing to work and his attitude has been great. The guys have really taken a liking to him.”

Robison is one of the most gifted passers in the state for 2019.

At Vandebilt, he was one of the top passers in the area – a player who was generating collegiate interest from programs around the Southeast.

For the Tigers, the blow would greatly impact a powerhouse program in the area’s Class 5A District. The Tigers were the Class 5A State Runners-Up last fall.

Attempts to reach the LHSAA were made, though the press department said the LHSAA cannot comment on cases that are in the appeals process.

Attempts to contact Saltaformaggio were unsuccessful.
