NSU softball inks four in early signing period

Nicholls State head softball coach Jenny Parsons announced that four athletes signed national letters-of-intent before Christmas.

Two were from Louisiana, one from Texas and one from the Netherlands.


All four will suit up for the Colonels in the 2008-09 season.


“I am extremely happy with my signing class,” Parsons said. “The four that we signed were the top four on all of our coaches’ lists, and we are excited to have them join our program.”

The signees are Logan Johnson from Dutchtown High in Gonzales, Laine Strickland from McNeil High in Austin, Texas, Tsade Joubert from Peter Suyvesant College in Curacao, Netherlands Antilles, and Kayla Watterson from Westgate High in New Iberia.


Logan Johnson


Dutchtown High School (Catcher)

€ Batted .333 with eight homeruns and 32 RBIs her junior season, and she also played on the Voodoo and Patriots summer teams.


€ Johnson was First Team All-State, First Team All-Metro, First Team All-Ascension Parish, and First Team All-District her junior season.


Laine Strickland

McNeil High School (Outfielder)


€ Was a prominent member of the 2007 McNeil High Bi-District Championship team, and was an All-State Honorable Mention candidate in 2006.


€ In 2007, Strickland was named to the First Team All-Academic Squad.

€ She also played summer league ball with the Texas Stix Gold.

Kayla Watterson

Westgate High (Third Base/First Base)

€ Watterson was a power hitter last season, and a solid middle of the lineup hitter that plays sound defense.

€ Was named All-District with a .372 batting average and eight homeruns her junior season.

€ Was an All-District honorable mention selection her freshman and sophomore campaigns as well.

Tsade Joubert

Peter Suyvesant College (Short stop/Second Base)

€ Joubert plays shortstop for the Curacao National Team that competes in many national tournaments in the Netherlands.

€ She is very fast on the bases, and boasts a solid glove in the middle infield. Brings a wealth of international experience to the program.

Webb makes Fabulous Fifty

After picking up numerous post-season accolades, junior Ladarius Webb added another to his growing list as he was selected to the FCS Fabulous Fifty Team released earlier today by College Sporting News.

Webb, who was named SLC Newcomer of the Year, an AP All-American, and a Walter Camp All-American, is joined on the list be fellow foe Bryan Smith of McNeese State on the defensive list.

Representing the conference of offense was Demetrius Bell from Northwestern State and Blake Martin of Sam Houston State.
