Week 5 news and notes in the Tri-parishes

1: The number of unbeaten teams remaining in the Tri-parish area. Patterson is the lone undefeated with South Terrebonne’s road loss to East Jefferson.

17: The total unanswered points E.D. White scored in their one-point come from behind win against Central Lafourche. The Cardinals trailed 16-0 before the late rally.

387: The total yardage Thibodaux’s offense accumulated in Friday’s rout of H.L. Bourgeois, the team’s first win of the season.

SportsNet Week 5 Players of the Week

Bronze: Houma Christian quarterback Nate Frye. Frye is the first Warrior to ever make the list, tossing for 91 yards and a touchdown and rushing for 113 more yards with two touchdowns. The Warriors fell short, but Frye stood tall amidst the team’s troubles.

Silver: E.D. White quarterback Benton Arceneaux. With his team down 16-0, Arceneaux never panicked and showed championship poise, willing the Cardinals to 17 unanswered points in a comeback win against Central Lafourche. The quarterback completed 10-of-18 passes for 131 yards and two touchdowns in the rally.

Gold: South Lafourche quarterback Seth Griffin. They call this guy Slash for his ability to play multiple positions.

Friday night was a pretty good example of just how it’s done. Griffin tossed two touchdown passes on offense and intercepted a pass on defense in the Tarpons’ district opening rout of Terrebonne.

The Super 6 power rankings (ranking Casey Gisclair’s six best Tri-parish teams)

1. Patterson.

The Lumberjacks aren’t very friendly to neighbors apparently. Playing cross-town rivals Berwick, the Jacks pounced early and often in a decisive 59-7 win. The schedule’s soft the rest of the way. We fully expect a 9-0 season.

2. Central Catholic.

Champions respond from adversity and bounce back better than ever. That’s exactly what Central Catholic did in a blowout win. Like the Jacks, the Eagles are laced with winnable games the rest of the season.

3. South Terrebonne.

We found out Central Catholic’s response to a loss this week. The ball is now in South Terrebonne’s court. The timing for a rebound couldn’t be better with rival Vandebilt looming. This game could define the Gators’ season.

4. E.D. White.

E.D. White’s play Friday wasn’t pretty. Heck, in the early minutes, it was downright ugly. But the Cardinals rallied and earned a win against a 5A opponent, a mark that is always impressive for any 3A team.

5. South Lafourche.

The Tarpons are 11-2 in district play under third-year coach Terry Farmer. That 11th win came in a rout of Terrebonne in which South Lafourche showed its defensive bite.

6. Thibodaux.

After going through a winless four game gauntlet, Thibodaux finally got their first win of the season Friday against H.L. Bourgeois. The Tigers are not a bad team. Don’t label the team as ineffective, despite their 1-4 record.
