Some of the best senior prep basketball players in the Tri-Parish area will get one more shot to strut their stuff this weekend before heading to the next level.

The Bayou vs. River All-Star Basketball Shootout will take place Saturday night at Thibodaux High School with festivities beginning at 6 p.m. with a 3-point contest and slam dunk competition. Tip-off for the game is at 7.

The event is the third of its kind, and it is sponsored by the Sports Medicine Center of Thibodaux Regional Medical Center and presented by the Thibodaux Lions Club.

Players from every high school in Lafourche and Terrebonne parishes will represent the Bayou Team in the game, while players from multiple parishes will join together to create the River Team.

Terrebonne High School boys’ basketball coach Derek Szush will coach the Bayou Team, while East St. John headman Yussef Jasmine will lead the River squad.

“It’s a great event, and it’s a really good chance to reward the young men who gave their time and energy to our basketball programs in our area,” Szush said. “It’s fun for the kids, and it’s fun for the fans, so it’s truly a win-win for everyone involved, and I’m happy to be involved for another year.”

The event is fan friendly, and aims to get the young basketball players in the community involved. All Biddy Basketball players and Recreational League players will get into the gym free if they are wearing their league-issued uniform shirts. Tickets will cost $5 at the door for adults.

Proceeds for the night will go to college scholarships and also to the Thibodaux Lions Club’s causes, which as the Louisiana Lions Camp and Eye Foundation.
