While the girls’ basketball playoffs churns forward, the boys’ playoffs will get under way this week.

Eight Tri-parish teams were announced as playoff competitors Monday afternoon when the LHSAA released the brackets.

Most of the local squads will be on the road in the first round of play, but Ellender, Patterson and Central Catholic were among the Top 16 seeds in their brackets and will remain at home.

In Class 5A, Thibodaux, Central Lafourche and H.L. Bourgeois will all hit the road to try and get to the second round of the postseason.

The No. 19 Tigers will take on No. 14 Lafayette, while No. 18 H.L. Bourgeois will face New Iberia.

No. 26 Central Lafourche will play a rubber match with No. 7 East St. John – a team they both defeated and lost to earlier this season in district play.

In Class 4A, No. 12 Ellender will also play host to a district foe – No. 21 Assumption.

No. 7 Patterson will host No. 26 Evangel in Class 3A. On the opposite side of the bracket, No. 25 E.D. White will travel to take on No. 8 Donaldsonville.

In Class 1A, Covenant Christian Academy earned a playoff bid and will be the No. 17 seed in the bracket. The Lions will travel to play No. 16 Ascension Episcopal in opening round play.

Central Catholic also earned a playoff bid in 1A as the No. 13 seed. They will host No. 20 Tensas.
