Anyone who’s ever been to Tiger Stadium is well aware that “The Golden Band from Tigerland” knows how to get a college football party started.

This week, the LSU band got some credit on a national scale – one newspaper believes the musical group is among the best in America.

The LSU Tiger Marching Band was included in The Huffington Post’s list of the top 10 “best marching bands in 2011-12.”

The 10 elite bands are not presented in ranked order and the Tiger musicians were selected because of their ability to incite emotion from the 90,000-plus faithful that pile into Tiger Stadium for more than a half-dozen Saturdays out of the year.

“Marching bands are awesome,” Huffington Post writer Anna Susman wrote in the article. “This invaluable part of the college football experience gets the crowd amped up, and generates competitive spirit between the two schools battling for supremacy. The following colleges have nurtured marching bands that always impress, always excite and always showcase their full talent.”

This is not the first time that the LSU band is given mainstream love for its musical prowess.

“The Golden Band from Tigerland” received the Sudler Trophy in 2002 and 2008 – an award given to the best college marching band.

The LSU band has also won the ‘Battle of the Bands,’ a promotion sponsored by ESPN, Paramount Pictures and Lucasfilm.

The Huffington Post piece says that the Tigers’ marching band, “dazzles audiences with their consistent talent and their Golden Girls.”

Other bands selected among the top 10 are Texas A&M, Tennessee, Texas, USC, Ohio State, Michigan, Florida A&M, Notre Dame and West Virginia.

LSU Director of Athletic Bands Roy King said being among the best in America is an honor and a source of momentum for the group as they head toward football season.

“The LSU Tiger Band is delighted to be selected as one of the top 10 college marching bands of 2011-2012,” King said in a printed release. “It is an honor to be in the company of the other marching bands who were selected. Congratulations to the directors, staff and students of these fine organizations for all the hard work they do to represent their universities in such a prestigious manner.”

The Golden Band from Tigerland marches down victory during a football game last season. The LSU band was named one of the nation’s best this week, according to a report in the Huffington Post.
