The Nicholls State University baseball team got a key win on Wednesday night – one which the team hopes will give it some momentum heading into the weekend.

The Colonels beat Mississippi Valley State 4-3 in a home tilt at Ben Meyer Diamond at Ray E. Didier Field, a win which improved the team to 15-23 on the year.

Junior righty Parker White was clutch in the win, throwing 137 pitches and allowing no earned runs over eight innings.

Offensively, Nicholls was led by Kyle Knauth, Lee Clark and Chet Niehaus, who all had run-producing hits in the victory.

Nicholls led 1-0 after the first inning, then 2-0 after three.

In the fourth, the Colonels got two more to go ahead 4-0.

Mississippi Valley’s lone damage came in a three-run sixth, which was aided by a two-out error.

Christian Bahlinger worked the ninth inning to earn the safe, needing just eight pitches.

With the win, the Colonels take momentum into the weekend.

Nicholls will face Southeastern Louisiana over the weekend in a series that is both home and away.

The Colonels will travel to Hammond for Friday and Saturday’s games, while Sunday will be in Thibodaux.
