Southland Conference coaches predict the Nicholls softball team will win the conference championship this spring.

The conference released its 2019 Preseason Poll this week, giving the Colonels the top distinction with 18 first place votes out of the 24 total.

Nicholls is picked to win the league over powerhouse McNeese – the three-time reigning Southland Champions. The Cowgirls are picked as the preseason runner-up.

Nicholls finished 40-15 last year and won the Southland Regular Season Title by three games before falling short of the Southland Tournament Title to their longtime rivals.

But this year’s team figures to be even better with eight All-Southland players returning, including Pitcher of the Year Megan Landry, Newcomer of the Year Kali Clement and Freshman of the Year Jewel Lara.

Nicholls opens its season on Feb. 8. The school also has free admission for all its home games.
