The Nicholls State University cross country program set its 2019 schedule this week, securing 7 total competitions for both the men's and women's teams.
The Colonels start the year on Aug. 30 at the UNO Opener in New Orleans and they close out with two-straight meets in Arkansas, the Southland Conference Championship Meet on Nov. 1 at Central Arkansas and then the NCAA South Central Regional on Nov. 15 in Fayetteville.
Coach Stefanie Slekis said this year's schedule will be exciting for the Colonels. The Colonels start off with several meets early, then have a brief pause in competition before finishing the season with a second flurry.
Nicholls' home meet is Sept. 21 at the Nicholls Farm.
"We have some exciting changes to our schedule this year with four local meets to start our season that give us a great opportunity to build our team racing chemistry against strong local competition before traveling to see some regionally ranked competition outside the state at the UAB Blazer Classic," Slekis said. "These local meets in New Orleans, Baton Rouge, and Thibodaux give us the opportunity to have parents, alumni, and supporters attend to cheer on our teams before we head out of state for the second half of our season."
