Vandebilt Catholic graduate and WNBA standout Theresa Plaisance now has a new home.
The Dallas Wings announced this morning that they’ve traded the standout center to the Connecticut Sun in exchange for rookie forward Kristine Anigwe.
Plaisance, 27, is a veteran professional basketball player who has enjoyed success all over the world. This is her sixth season in the WNBA – all with the Dallas organization, even dating back to when the team was in Tulsa.
A fan favorite in Dallas, Plaisance averaged 6.0 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game for the Wings, serving as a stretch post for the team.
But the Wings are in transition and the trade will allow Plaisance to compete at the highest level.
Dallas is No. 11 in the 12-team WNBA with just a 6-16 record. By being traded to Connecticut, Plaisance moves into the title hunt over night, joining a team that is 16-6 on the season and currently in first place.
Sun coach Curt Miller said he’s excited to put Plaisance’s skills to use for the rest of the season and beyond.
Today is the WNBA trading deadline and Plaisance’s trade was the first of what’s expected to be many around the league.
“We are excited about the acquisition of Theresa Plaisance,” Sun head coach and general manager Curt Miller said. “Theresa is a talented, versatile offensive player and is considered one of the best stretch post players in the league. She is someone who we have targeted for a few seasons and we are excited to have her with us.”
