As it turns out, the E.D. White baseball team isn’t invincible after all.

The powerful Cardinals tasted defeat for the first time on Wednesday when Vandebilt pounded the Cardinals in a 10-1 victory.

The loss ends E.D. White’s 27-game winning streak to start the season. It also clinches a share of the District 7-4A crown for the two rivals. E.D. White had beaten Vandebilt 4-0 in Thibodaux just 24 hours prior to the Terriers’ game two win.

It was a big day for Kolby Dufrene, and that’s putting it mildly.

Just hours after signing a collegiate scholarship to attend Nicholls, Dufrene pounded two home runs in the win, igniting a Vandebilt offense that didn’t need to do much scoring because of beautiful pitching from Brennan Hamner on the mound.

Hamner also aided his cause with a home run in the win.

For an expanded story on Dufrene’s decision, read the paper edition of The Times on Wednesday.
