Day 1 of our coverage from Lake Charles is about in the books as the final games are wrapping up.

Of course, today was mostly a light day on our end with Thibodaux taking the floor tomorrow.

But — there’s still lessons to be learned in every day in the gym, so here’s what I’ve picked up from my day on the campus of McNeese State University.

1. Shooters? What shooters? – Teams are not adjusting well to the depth perception here at the Burton Coliseum. 3-point shooting has been putrid today in the games we’ve watched and everyone seems to have a different explanation as to why. Some say it’s a depth perception issue with bleachers behind the baskets — unlike most high school gyms. Others say it’s adrenaline and momentum and as kids are a little more pumped up, they change their shooting motion slightly and are more prone to miss. Whatever the case, Thibodaux got ahead of the issue, opting for a practice at Nicholls before departing. We’ll see if it helps.

2. Light crowds? Calm before the storm? – Crowds at Burton today have been light. That’s understandable. It’s the day after Mardi Gras and it’s a weekday. But I have a feeling that will change tomorrow. I don’t think residents of The Jungle will have any problem getting to Lake Charles. We expect the Tigers’ Nation to be loud and proud tomorrow here in Burton.

3. Scouting report from Bonnabel – The Bruins are tough. They have size, speed and athleticism. The name we will be shouting out a lot tomorrow is Rodney Munson. The Tigers will have to account for his ability to create and penetrate if they want to have success in the game. They’re also here in Lake Charles. They got a shootaround at a local school today and will rest in the city tonight.

That’s all for us for tonight.

Time to get a little rest and get ready for tomorrow. Will be a huge day with two great teams sharing the floor.
