The Houma-Thibodaux basketball community is rallying together to honor one of its own who was shot and killed last weekend at a house party in Gonzales.

Family, friends and former teammates and opponents of Jerrodd Brown have organized the 5IVE Tournament for Roddy – a basketball tournament set for this weekend at Terrebonne High School.

The tournament will be held on Saturday and it will take place from 9 a.m. – 7 p.m.

To enter a team costs $25 and proceeds will go to Brown’s family to assist in their time of need. Food will also be sold throughout the day.

Brown, known to friends as ‘Roddy’, was a great Terrebonne High School basketball player who ascended to the collegiate ranks.

When in Houma, Roddy would always frequent local gyms to play pick-up or in men’s leagues.

He is remembered as a fun-loving, kind-hearted person who had that rare ability to make people smile – no matter their situation.

Those close to Roddy said they know he will be smiling down on them this weekend as family and friends rally around him, while playing the sport he loved.
