WEEK 9 SCORES

Central Lafourche 21

Terrebonne 18

Central Lafourche snaps a three-game losing streak and keeps their playoff hopes alive against a Terrebonne team that was driving late in the game to try and steal a win. The Tigers absolutely, positively have to beat East St. John on Friday to reach the playoffs.

Destrehan 51

Thibodaux 40

The Tigers battled Destrehan about as close as anyone has this season, using a strong offensive effort to keep the score close. But the Wildcats led by 30 points late in this one and a lot of Thibodaux’s points came in garbage time, so the final score is a bit misleading.

Hahnville 49

H.L. Bourgeois 7

The Cinderella ride that is the H.L. Bourgeois football season may be almost to midnight. The Braves started 4-0 to shock the Houma-Thibodaux area, but have now lost four out of their past five games. The Braves need a lot of help to make the playoffs – even if they beat Terrebonne on Friday.

Assumption 36

South Lafourche 31

The Mustangs broke South Lafourche’s hearts on Friday night, using a last-second long touchdown pass to steal the Tarpons 31-29 lead and ultimately the victory and district championship. Power ranking projections say these teams may meet in the playoffs. Sign me up. I’d love to see that.

South Terrebonne 50

Ellender 46

Ellender just can’t seem to find a way to beat their cross-town rival, losing again to the Gators who are now the winners of two-straight. South Terrebonne may be just 2-7, but coach Richard Curlin hasn’t lost his team’s attention. They’re battling hard to close out the year.

Vandebilt 37

Morgan City 7

The Terriers get their third win of the season, trumping an outmatched Morgan City team in routine fashion. Vandebilt closes the season with Ellender – a game that might be a high-scoring affair.

E.D. White 55

Berwick 33

The Cardinals’ offense cruised past Berwick’s defense in a shootout in District 8-3A. E.D. White has been without quarterback Ben Sposito in recent weeks, but has still shown an ability to move the chains and put up big points – 100 in the past two games combined.

CCA 47

Houma Christian 7

The Lions roar past their rivals in a game that clinched CCA’s first-ever district championship in football. Kudos to the Lions and head coach Randy Boquet, who is one of the best coaches in the Houma-Thibodaux area.

WEEK 9 BY THE NUMBERS

6: Are you kidding me? E.D. White halfback Jeremy Rounds scored six … count ‘em SIX touchdowns on Friday night in an easy win over Berwick. In an individual performance that was the best we’ve seen all season, Rounds battered and bruised the Panthers defense.

2: Vandebilt’s game with Morgan City got chippy in the second half. The Tigers and Terriers were flagged for multiple personal foul penalties throughout the final 24 minutes and two players were ejected after multiple skirmishes.

1: The Covenant Christian Academy football team clinched their first-ever LHSAA district championship on Friday night, cruising past rival Houma Christian at Nicholls State University. The Lions rushing offense swarmed the Warriors who had no answer.

19: South Terrebonne owns Ellender. With Friday night’s 50-46 victory, the Gators have now beaten their crosstown rivals 19-straight times – a streak that goes all the way back to 1996. The Gators and Patriots were offensive forces in the game, accumulating nearly 800 combined yards of offense.

8: After a 35-yard field goal from Brannon Lee, South Lafourche led Assumption 31-29 with less than a minute to play. But the Mustangs got a long touchdown pass with eight seconds left in the game to seal the win.

Week 9 Players of the Week

Bronze: South Terrebonne fullback Louis Blanchard – Blanchard was a load for the Patriots to deal with in Friday night’s shootout between cross-town rivals. Blanchard had just 73 yards rushing, but was huge in the red zone, scoring five touchdowns in the Gators win.

Silver: CCA standout Cameron Solet – Just about everything CCA did worked on Friday night, but Solet was arguably the most explosive rocket in the Lions’ arsenal. The athlete had 121 yards on just four touches to help power CCA to its first-ever district title.

Gold: E.D. White halfback Jeremy Rounds: The Cardinals had an easy time on Friday night against Berwick thanks to Rounds, who was an absolute terror. The tough halfback rushed for more than 300 yards with six touchdowns to lead the Cardinals to a district victory over the gutsy Panthers.

The High-Five

1. Thibodaux – The Tigers ran into arguably the best team in Louisiana on Friday night and it showed. Destrehan led Thibodaux big in the second half before pulling out some starters and allowing some late points. The Tigers will be fine. They’re still a threat to beat anyone on a given night.

2. South Lafourche – The Tarpons were a millimeter away from beating Assumption on Friday night. After a late field goal, everything looked peachy for the Tarpons, but a late bomb from Assumption ruined South Lafourche’s homecoming festivities.

3. E.D. White – Jeremy Rounds was a one-man highlight reel on Friday night, racking up 300-plus yards with six scores. The rest of the Cardinals aren’t too bad, either, owning six wins already on the season.

4. Central Lafourche – Congratulations are in order to Keith Menard and the Central Lafourche football team for getting their fifth win of the season. The Trojans have been so close for so long, but have finally broken the ice to seal that they will not have a losing season.

5. CCA – Lions coach Randy Boquet is a good dude. We’re so happy for the successes that he’s having with CCA. To get the first LHSAA-recognized football district title in Lions history is an honor that they’ll remember forever at the small private school.
