Houma gets a taste of Disney adventure Dec. 20 when Disney Junior Live on Tour! Pirate and Princess Adventure visits the Houma Civic Center. Originally set up for two shows, the recent announcement that a third show will be added came as a great surprise for parents and children alike.

“The added performance was due to the tremendous response we have received from the families in Houma who would like the opportunity to attend the show,” said Jenifer Maninger of Feld Entertainment, the organizers of the tour. “There are so many families in Houma who would like to see the show that we had to add another performance in order to accommodate everyone.”

Aside from Houma, the tour will also travel to Lafayette, Baton Rouge and New Orleans in Louisiana. No show will be short of the classic Disney magic, and each features guest appearances by Mickey and Minnie, as well as old favorites Cinderella and Peter Pan (plus the crooked Captain Hook) who appear to assist Sofia and Jake in their adventures.

Sofia the First became royalty when her mother Miranda married King Roland. Since her television series debut in January 2013 Sofia the First shot its way to the top as children watched the not-so-royal Sofia deal with the trials of learning stately behaviors. She attends a Royal Prep school where she learns from Head Mistresses, Flora, Meriwether and Fauna, the fairies from Sleeping Beauty and has a special amulet that allows her to call Disney princesses for help.

“Launching at the top of 2013, Sofia the First is cable TV’s number one series this year to date among Kids 2-5 and Girls 2-5,” said Maninger. “In fact, the November 18, 2012 premiere of its introductory TV movie, “Sofia the First: Once Upon a Princess” became the number one cable TV telecast ever in Kids 2-5, and number one preschool cable TV telecast of all time in total viewers (8.2 million) and women 18-49.”

For her Houma debut, the audience will see Sofia as she searches for the perfect gift to bring to the Friendship Festival hosted in her town of Enchancia. With the help of Cinderella, Sofia finds the perfect gift and demonstrates the true meaning of being a princess.

Following Sofia the First will be Jake and the Never Land Pirates, taking over in Act II of the performance. Jake and the Never Land Pirates is also a television favorite, featuring a young band of pirates, Jake, Izzy, Cubby and their parrot Skully, who spend their days competing against Captain Hook and Mr. Smee for treasure on their pirate ship, Bucky.

Jake and the Never Land Pirates take the audience on an adventure to locate the treasure-filled volcano as they race against Captain Hook and try to avoid dangers at every turn. Peter Pan is there to help, and Tinker Bell’s pixie dust gives the boys an advantage as they fly over Captain Hook and Mr. Smee.

As a bonus, ticket holders can attend the special pre-show, featuring Doc McStuffins, the lovable 6-year-old girl longing to become a doctor just like her mother. For practice, she works on her stuffed animals, but when she puts on her stethoscope, her stuffed patients magically come to life. With her animal friends Stuffy, Hallie, Lambie and Chilly by her side, and the help of her “Big Book of Boo Boos,” Doc is able to help them feel happier and healthier with her expert advice. This bonus show occurs 10 minutes prior to each Pirate and Princess Adventure.

“In 2012, Doc McStuffins and Jake and the Never Land Pirates ranked as cable TV’s top two series for all kids ages 2-5, reaching 46.7 million and 36.5 million unique total viewers, respectively, throughout the year,” Maninger said. “Based on these statistics you can see how enormously popular these television shows are among young children. Alana Feld, Producer of Disney Junior Live ON Tour! Pirate & Princess Adventure, knew that based on the popularity of Sofia and Jake as well as their adventurous spirits that these properties would work well for a live stage show.”
