“WICKED”

The story of how the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good came to be, this play follows the life of Elphaba, the eventual Wicked Witch. The play follows Elphaba through her college years, where she meets Glinda, and beyond to when she earns the title “Wicked.”

“DRIVING MISS DAISY”

Winner of the 1988 Pulitzer Prize and the Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Off-Broadway Play and later, an Academy Award-winning film. A warm-hearted, humorous and affecting study of the unlikely relationship between an aging, crotchety white Southern lady, and a proud, soft-spoken black man.

“CLYBOURNE PARK”


Through June 23

Clybourne Park’, winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Drama (2011), London’s Olivier Award for Best New Play (2011), and the Tony Award for Best Play (2012), explodes in two, riveting acts set 50 years apart. Act One takes place in 1959 Chicago, Ill., as nervous community leaders attempt to prevent the sale of a home to a black family, while Act Two unfolds in exact same location only in the present-day, revealing the plight of a now predominantly black community as it struggles to maintain solidarity in the face of an ever-encompassing threat: Gentrification.

“SANCTIFIED”

June 7-30

A gospel music comedy that opens a window to the African American church, gospel music, and the congregations that sustain it. East Piney Grove Church must work together in their last effort for a successful revival, using a new pastor and a self-proclaimed gospel diva. The church elders have great distaste for the idea, which creates more conflict within the play.

“THE MERRY WIVES OF WINDSOR”

Windsor, a peaceful town on the Thames, is greatly disturbed by Sir John Falstaff, England’s most notorious mischief-maker. This Shakespearian play features an insanely jealous husband, funny foreigners and the unorthodox use of a laundry basket.

“MONTY PYTHON’S SPAMALOT”

“3X3 – CABARET”

June 17-18

Southern Rep sponsored this “play,” which showcases three local writers from the previous edition, “6×6.” This set of one-act plays follows a cabaret theme and more than 25 playwrights, 50 directors, and 100 actors have participated in this series.
