Albert Lionel “Smiley” Lasseigne, 92, a native of Lions, La., and a resident of Houma, La., died on Thursday, June 1, 2017.


Mr. Lasseigne served in the European Theater during World War II, receiving the Purple Heart and French Legion of Honor awards. He moved to Houma to work with Untied Gas Pipeline and oversaw the original construction of Vandebilt Catholic High School in the 1960s. He was also a founding parishioner of St. Bernadette Catholic Parish.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Gilda Klibert Lasseigne; daughters, Jean (Daniel) Jens and Amy (Claus) Sorensen; son, Mark (Kendall) Lasseigne; and five grandchildren .

Burial is at St. Francis de Sales Cemetery No. 2 in Houma.
