Suspect stranded by friends; alerts authorities, gets arrested for warrants

Jansen Simon, 30, of Cut Off, needed help.

It was Sunday morning. He was traveling with friends and they left him on the side of the road in the middle of the summer heat.


So Simon allegedly flagged for help, signaling to a deputy in Raceland.

But there was a problem.

Authorities quickly learned that Simon was wanted for his alleged role in a violent crime, quickly taking him into custody.


On July 16, LPSO deputies said they were alerted by Simon in Raceland.

Authorities said the man claimed to have been stranded by friends on the side of the road.

LPSO verified Simon’s identity, then took him into immediate custody, learning that he had three warrants for aggravated second-degree battery and two counts of contempt of court for an incident which took place in 2013.


On Aug. 3, 2013, authorities said they were called to a complaint outside of a bar on La. Highway 308 in Cut Off in reference to two men who had been arguing.

Authorities learned through investigation that as the argument intensified, Simon allegedly struck the other man with a hammer, then fled the scene.

Authorities said the victim had a fractured skull in the incident.


Warrants were obtained for Simon’s arrest, but he remained at large – almost four years after the incident.

Now in custody, he’s being held without bond.

Lockport woman arrested for stabbing another woman in Raceland parking lot


An argument at a Raceland restaurant spilled over into a parking lot and allegedly ended with a woman getting stabbed in the hand and another getting charged with battery.

At around 7:40 p.m. on July 20, LPSO deputies were called to the Sugarland Shopping Center on La. Highway 1 in Raceland in reference to a call of a woman lying on the ground bleeding.

Upon arrival, deputies discovered a woman in her 50s bleeding from a wound on her left hand.


Authorities said the victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Through investigation at the scene, deputies said they learned that two women were involved in a verbal altercation inside a restaurant, which al legedly continued on into the parking lot and got physical.

Authorities said during the altercation, Patricia Arceneaux, 58, of Lockport, allegedly pulled a knife from her pocket and stabbed the victim in the hand.


She then entered her vehicle and fled the scene.

Authorities said they then made contact with Arceneaux and placed her under arrest.

She was taken to the Lafourche Parish Jail, charged with aggravated battery with a dangerous weapon.


Her bond is set at $25,000.

Galliano man charged with first-degree rape of a toddler

A 24-year-old Galliano man is held on $500,000 bond in the Lafourche Parish Detention Center after he allegedly raped a toddler.


On July 18, authorities were called to Lady of the Sea Hospital after a toddler was found to have signs of sexual abuse.

Authorities said the child was later taken to Children’s Hospital of New Orleans.

Through investigation, authorities developed Eric Matherne, 24, of Galliano, as a suspect.


During questioning, authorities said Matherne allegedly admitted to raping the toddler.

Matherne was taken into custody and is charged with first-degree rape.

Cycle World burglary suspects taken into custody


A burglary attempt at Cycle World in Houma was thwarted this week by Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies who took three men into custody shortly after the alleged incident.

At 3:30 a.m. on July 18, deputies were patrolling the Oakshire Subdivision when they were called to Cycle World in Houma because the store’s burglar alarm had gone off.

Authorities got to the local business after the suspects left the scene.


While deputies were checking the perimeter of the business, they observed a vehicle leaving the neighborhood within a block of the business.

Deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop of the vehicle – a 2006 Saturn Ion – but the driver allegedly refused to stop.

Authorities said the vehicle proceeded to cross over to West Main Street and then headed back toward Houma.


Deputies managed to get the vehicle to stop in the 5400 block of West Main Street, identifying the driver as Jyron Robinson, 20, of 5620 St. Claude St., New Orleans.

Also in the vehicle were Branden Hingle, 22, of 448 Ruth Drive, Avondale, and Xavier Okoronkwo, 21, of Harves Streamway, Houston.

Authorities viewed video footage from Cycle World, which showed two suspects trying to gain entry into the business.


The suspects allegedly fit the description of the men located during the stop.

Deputies patrolled the area and also found an abandoned U-Haul truck on the street behind Cycle World. It was registered as stolen from New Orleans.

Authorities took all three men into custody, charging each with attempted business burglary.


All three are held on $200,000 bond.

Bayou Blue man charged with sexual battery of a child

A 21-year-old Bayou Blue man is accused of sexually assaulting a child under 10.


As previously reported in Terrebonne Parish, Brody Guidry, 21, of Bayou Blue, allegedly touched a child in an inappropriate manner during a sleepover. The suspect allegedly admitted to his role in the incident and was arrested.

Through work with TPSO, LPSO learned that Guidry allegedly touched the same child in Lafourche.

He’s charged with sexual battery.
