The Y offers a teen training program for cardio and weight room exercise. The session is built around four one-hour sessions that teach equipment basics, weight training, aerobics and flexibility. Although mandatory for 11-year-olds – the youngest age one can use Bayouland equipment – the program is open to teens as old as 14. Registration costs $100.

Personal training is also made available for adults. Registration ranges between $60-300, depending on how many sessions one wishes to take. Programming emphasizes goal setting and assistance in improving cardiovascular fitness, muscle strength and endurance.

Swimming lessons are offered for children between 6 months and 3 years old. Programming includes water adjustment, pool games, songs and more. Class sign ups cost $55 for members and $75 for nonmembers, and includes five 30-minute sessions over one week.

Bayouland offers a variety of aquatics programming, including Pilates, Yoga and Zumba. In the roughly 20 sessions each week, the intensity varies based on what members desire.

For aspiring lifeguards, Bayouland offers certification classes. Sign ups cost $275 for members and $300 for nonmembers. Participants must be at least 15 years old to attain certification, which lasts for two years. For more information, email MDoiron@bayoulandymca.org.

In youth sports, T-ball/baseball season is winding down as youth basketball and soccer approach.

Registration for basketball is closed, but soccer sign-ups last through June 3. Soccer sign-up costs $55, and the season lasts from June 10 through July 18. The program is open to children between the ages of 2 and 12.

Cheerleading (age 4 to 12) and youth flag football (5-8 and 9-12) registration begins in August.

YMCA youth sports are termed “noncompetitive play,” which means there are no try-outs or cuts and during the season, every child plays in every game. At the end of the season, each participant receives the same award.

For the adults, team registration costs $500 for adult flag football. The season typically starts in September following a registration period beginning in August.

Bayouland YMCA membership fees vary depending on individuals’ schedules. The facility is open from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday; 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday; and 1-5 p.m. on Sunday. For a list of rates and more information about the programs offered at Bayouland, visit www.bayoulandymca.org or call (985) 873-9622.
