Galliano man charged with attempted murder in shooting

A 25-year-old Galliano man has been arrested and is being held by the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office on charges of attempted murder.

At around 6:20 p.m. on Saturday, LPSO deputies said they responded to a call in reference to a shooting in the 200 block of Jerica Street in Galliano.

Upon arrival to the neighborhood, deputies were flagged down by a man sitting in a pickup truck. As the deputies made contact with the man, it was discovered that he had been shot in the leg.

Detectives then arrived on the scene and learned that the victim arrived at a residence on Jerica Street when several men were present, including Jonathan Ramos-Vasquez, 25, of Galliano.

Deputies said that at some point during the gathering, an argument ensued and deputies said Ramos-Vasquez shot the man in the leg.

Detectives located Ramos-Vasquez at his residence and discovered him in possession of a handgun that matched the description as the one used at the scene during the shooting.

He was taken into custody and charged with attempted second-degree murder. Ramos-Vasquez is being held at the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in lieu of a $150,000 bond that was set by Judge Steven M. Miller.

A suspect is in custody after allegedly shaking a 6-week-old baby.

Terrebonne Sheriff Jerry Larpenter said that on March 15 at approximately 6:45 p.m. last Sunday evening, deputies responded to Children’s Hospital in New Orleans in reference to a call saying that a 6-week-old baby had been taken into the facility for treatment.

During investigation, detectives said they learned that the infant was hospitalized for bleeding on the brain and other injuries that are consistent with the symptoms of shaken baby syndrome.

Detectives said they interviewed family members who cared for the infant during the weekend the injuries occurred.

On March 19, detectives arrested Marty Michael Marcel, 26, of 1855 Bayou Blue Road, Houma, charging him with attempted second-degree murder.

Marcel remains in the Terrebonne Parish Jail at press-time.

The child remains at the hospital on life support.
