Dewey “Druis” Joseph Lirette, 90, a native and resident of Chauvin, Louisiana, died at 12:28 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015.


A parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mr. Lirette had a special devotion to the Blessed Mother and the recitation of the Rosary. He served as a staff sergeant during World War II, and in the Occupational Army in Japan. He was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Ribbon, Army of Occupation Ribbon, two Bronze stars, a Victory Ribbon and two overseas service bars. Mr. Lirette was a member of the VFW and past commander of Post No. 9608. He was also a member of the American Legion, Council on Aging and Ward Seven Citizens Club. He loved fishing, storytelling, reading and playing with his grandchildren.

Mr. Lirette is survived by his wife of 67 years, Ismay Lirette; sons, Brent (Shannon) and Melvin (Carol) Lirette; daughters, Susie (Felton) Boudreaux, Peggy Lirette and Merril (David) Levien; sisters, Thelma “Tenu” LeBlanc and Elphie “Tootsie” Theriot; 18 grandchildren; 24 great-grand-children; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Burial is at St. Joseph Catholic Church Cemetery.
