The Phlebotomy students of Fletcher Technical Community College have something to brag about!

In addition to receiving their Certificate of Technical Studies, all students in Fletcher’s Fall 2018 Phlebotomy program recently passed the Certified Phlebotomy Technician exam. This certification is optional but is recognized throughout the United States and guarantees a higher rate of compensation.

The semester-long Phlebotomy program at Fletcher provides instruction on venipuncture (drawing of blood from veins), basic anatomy physiology, and infection control. In addition, students participate in clinical activities in the area’s hospitals and clinics under the direct supervision of an instructor and preceptor. The students’ clinical activities sometimes develop into career opportunities.

“I would like to congratulate the recent graduating class in Phlebotomy for their 100 parent pass rate on their certification exam.” commented Chancellor Dr. Kristine Strickland. “Our faculty and staff continue to provide the highest quality instruction, preparing students to successfully graduate and become certified in their fields of study. We congratulate our students and wish them the best of luck in their future careers.”

Fletcher’s Phlebotomy program was approved by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science in Fall 2006. Since that time, 92 percent of students have passed the Certified Phlebotomy Technician exam, and the program has a graduation rate of almost 99 percent. The program’s attrition rate is an impressive, 34 percent.
