LADY CHOPS TO PERFORM AT LAFORRCH LIBRARIES:

Farmer STOMP performer Elizabeth Vidos, also known as Lady Chops will bring her high-energy, one-woman percussion show to the Lafourche Parish Public Library’s three main branches as part of the library’s 2018 Summer Reading Program. Performances are scheduled for 2 p.m. on June 14 at the South Lafourche Branch Library, 16241 E. Main Street, in Cut Off; at 10 a.m. on June 15 at the Thibodaux Branch Library, 705 W. Fifth Street; and 2 p.m. on June 15 at the Lockport Branch Library, 720 Crescent Avenue. These performances are free and open to the public.

SUMMER READING PROGRAM TO BEGIN AT LAFOURCHE LIBRARY BRANCHES:


The Lafourche Parish Public Library’s annual Summer Reading Program began on May 29. People of all ages can stop by their local Lafourche Parish Public Library branch to set reading goals, sign up for arts and crafts programs, and more. Pick up a calendar of events at your local branch to see what special programs your library system has to offer this summer. This year’s theme is “Libraries Rock,” All Summer Reading Program activities are free and open to the public. Visit the library’s website at www.lafourche.org for more information.

STATE’S COASTAL MASTER PLAN AVAILABLE AT LAFOURCHE LIBRARIES:

Want to know more about the state’s plan for coastal areas? The 2017 Louisiana’s Comprehensive Master Plan for a Sustainable Coast, commonly known as Louisiana’s Coastal Master Plan, is now available at Louisiana’s public libraries. Each Lafourche Parish Public Library branch has a copy of the master plan available for check out to local residents.


Last year, Governor John Bel Edwards issued a proclamation declaring the Louisiana Coast to be in a state of crisis and emergency. The Coastal Master Plan, approved last year, outlines both restoration-and risk-reduction projects for Louisiana’s coastal areas. In a letter to Louisiana’s public libraries, Edwards wrote, “It is our hope that all residents, those who live on the coast as well as in inland areas, can use the information to better prepare their families and communities for a changing coastal Louisiana landscape .”

Learn more about Louisiana Appleseed and its Protect Your Property Program, which assists homeowners in Terrebonne and Lafourche parishes with title issues for free. Residents who wish to elevate their homes, make structural or nonstructural changes, or relocate due to coastal issues might not qualify for assistance programs or rebuilding funds, loans, or insurance if they cannot prove ownership. Representatives of Louisiana Appleseed will be visiting the Thibodaux Branch Library, 705 W. Fifth Street at B p.m. on June 20 to offer mare information. This program is open to the public.

BABYSITTING SAFETY CLASSES Of FERED AT LAFOURCHE LIBRARIES:

Representatives of local hospitals will be offering babysitting safety classes for tweens and teens at Lafourche library branches this summer. These programs are intended to help younger children and teens become more capable babysitters and are free to attend.


• South Lafourche Branch library: Representatives of Lady of the Sea Hospital’s Learning Center will offer its Safe Sitter program, a medically accurate instructional series that teaches young adolescents how to handle emergencies when caring for young children, at the South Lafourche Branch library, 16241 E. Main Street, in Cut Off. The program is aimed at those ages 10 to 15 years of age and is scheduled for 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on June l8. Space is limited, so those interested should register in advance at the library.

• Bayou Blue Branch Library: Ochsner St. Anne Hospital will host a one-hour babysitting safety class for 15 at 1 p.m. on June 18 at the Bayou Blue Branch library, 198 Mazerac Street.

• Thibodaux Branch library: Interested children and teens ages 9 to 15 can learn to safely care for younger children during a free babysitting class presented by Thibodaux Regional Medical Center’s Education Department staff at 10 a.m. on June 22 at the Thibodaux Branch Library. 705 W. Fifth Street.


LEARM ABOUT FREE LEGAL SERVICES IN JUNE:

Representatives of Southeast Louisiana Legal Services will visit Lafourche Parish library branches this summer to provide information about free civil legal services available to residents. Southeast Louisiana Legal Services serves low-income residents in 23 parishes and has six offices, including one in Houma. Representatives will be visiting the following branches in June.

• Bayou Blue Branch Library, 198 Mazerac Street: Jane 11, 10:30 a.m.


• South Lafourche Branch Library, 16241 E. Main Street, Cut Off: June 12, 10:30 a.m.

• Golden Meadow Branch library, 1403 N. Bayou Drive: June 13, 3 p.m.

• Choctaw Branch library, 1887 Choctaw Road: June 14, 10:50 a.m.


• Larose Branch Library, 305 E. Fifth Street: June 21, 2 p.m.

• Raceland Branch Library, 177 Recreation Drive: June 26, 11 a.m.

GET MOVEING WIIH AFTERNOON YOGA AT THE LAROSE LIBRARY:


The Larose Branch library, 305 E. Fifth Street, offers yoga sessions at 2 p.m. on Mondays and 3 p.m. on Fridays. The sessions, which feature gentle, easygoing movements intended to exercise joints and maintain mobility, are free and open to the public.

JOIN THE CARDIO CREN AT THE RACELAND LIBRARY:

Walk, do yoga, and sweat your way to fitness during gatherings of the Raceland Branch Library’s Cardio Crew, which meets every Monday and Friday at 10:15 a.m. at the library, 177 Recreation Drive. These fitness sessions are open to the public.


GOLDEN MEADOW LIBRARY TO HOST FUN FOOD FRIDAYS:

The golden Meadow Branch Library, 1408 N. Bayou Drive, will be offering treats to library visitors at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, June 15; and Friday, June 23; with treats ranging from ice cream floats to pickles, while supplies last. Stop by and enjoy.

ENJOY STEAM AND SNOEBALLS AT THE SOUTH LAFOURCHE LIBRARY:


Drop by the South Lafourche Branch library. 16241 E. Main Street, in Cut Off every Friday, beginning Friday, June 8, at 2 p.m. during the summer for fun, mystery STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) experiments, and snowballs. This program is open to children and teens and their families.

LEARN A LITTLE SPANISH AT THE LOCKPORT LIBRARY:

Learn Spanish language basics at free classes in June at the Lock port Branch Library, 720 Crescent Avenue. This month’s featured topic will be “family.” Class will be held at 1 p.m. on June 22.


ROCK ON WITH TRIVIA AT THE LOCKPORT LIBRARY:

Think you can name that tune? See how yon stack up during Rods: On Music Trivia nights to be held at 5:30 p.m. on June 19 and June 26 at the Lockport Branch Library, 720 Crescent Avenue.

THIBODAUX LIBRARY TO HOST TWEEN ROCK’N’ROLL AT THE LIBRARY NIGHT:
