This is the first time that I ever write something to the local newspaper, so please pardon me if it takes a while to get to my point or if I am not as versed in doing this as others. I am 54 years old. I have grown up in this area and I’ve lived here my whole life. I love Louisiana. I love the people here. I think this place is the best place in the world to live, which is why I’ve stayed here through thick and thin.

But right now, times are changing.

Last week, someone broke into my car and tried to break into my house, pulling the knobs on all of my doors in an effort to get in when I was not home. A few weeks before that, a close dear friend of mine was burglarized, as well and someone took her child’s bike right out from their own front yard.

We have to do better.

I remember a time locally when you could live in peace and comfort without worry about what would go on in the darkness.

We used to leave our doors unlocked and have the freedom to trust the person on the side of us because we believed in the goodness of all people and the goodness of our community.

But right now, those values are getting lost and it’s time to reform.

I urge all people to promote peace, love and happiness and I really want to believe that through those things, we can all be together again.

Please. We need it.
