This Saturday from 8 to 9 p.m. Anelas Yoga & Wellness Center will host its monthly Moses Knight shear’s ‘Heaven and Hell’ event
The free family-friendly show will include local singer songwriters; Susan Aysen. Michael Brown, Brooks Frederick and Jessica Cermak. Gary Kiger and Moses Knightshead— who all will be performing original songs.
Local poets; Ennis Lota, Michael Cobb. Jonielle Waguespack. Tommie Loftin. Dadene Martin Eschete. Lora Demise Bene it and Hardy Williams will read their original works.
Artists from the area: Kami Galea on. Brooks Frederick. Ennis Luke and Louise Chauvin Lapey rouse will have artwork on display and Amber-fire Creations will show off handmade jewelry.
“The show is to support all aspects of local creativity; from artiste to singer/songwriters, to poets, to craft makers,” said Moses Knight ahead, pianist singer, songwriter, poet and creator of “Heaven and Hell.’ “All of these people are so important”
Knightshead who has been playing music since he was 13 years old didn’t know he would start such a successful and important event when he was just looking for a place to play his original music five years ago.
“I had a hard time finding somewhere to play in Houma because meet places want you to play cover songs.” Knight shead said. “But I’ve noticed that there was a bar called The Knights Landing.,. And so I went in there, and showed them some videos that 1 had on YouTube at that time They said. ‘Well, we’re going to check them out and call you tomorrow,” They called the next day and said. “Dude, whatever you want to do at this bar. yon can do. We love your music””
Because The Knights Landing gave Knightshead a chance to show his talents, he wanted to pay the opportunity forward He sought out a few other song-writers to perform a show with him, around Halloween, the same night the bar had a costume contest called “Heaven and Hell’.
“We performed our own music, and it turned out good. So. the next day. I called the bar and said, “Dude, 1 want to keep having shows over there, and I want to keep that name,” Knightshead said
After a three-month stretch there. The Knight’s Landing unfortunately closed down and Knightshead was forced to move ‘Heaven and Hell’ to a different location. He later held the event at the Bayou Terrebonne Water life Museum, where he saw the even more positivity the show could create if it’s somewhere that could allow children.
“…I was able to have kids come to watch their parents perform. It was amazing, it was so cool to have kids see all of these musicians and diversity.”
Knightshead said “And also. I was able to bring in poets and artists because it wasn’t in a smoking environment anymore”
Knowing he had to find a new permanent location that was kid-friendly and smoke-free. Knightshead contacted Anelas, where the event has been held ever since.
“T’d also Like to mention how thankful I am for Anelas for being so supportive of me and so welcoming of the event. I really cant thank them enough for that.” Knightshead said.

“I wanted to focus on song-writers, poets and artists doing their own stuff. A lot of them are so insecure about performing in front of an audience because when you write something yourself, it’s very personal., ,” Knightshead said. “It [“Heaven and Heir] makes them feel as though they have a place that welcomes them and their creativity. When you inspire someone, that person inspires someone else. It’s like a big domino effect of inspiration.”
