Some of the Houma-Thibodaux area’s best mixed martial artists will fight it Dut next weekend at the Cut Off Youth Center.

In Ya Face Fight Productions announced that it will hold Caged Warrior Championship 7 on July 31 – the latest installment of the fighting series that’s put Dn periodically by the local fight promoting company, led by promoter and fighter Justin Verdin.

The doors open at 6 p.m., but the first bell won’t be until 8.

Verdin said local fighters like Jordon Plaisance, Ricky Folse, Maxx Smith and Scotty St. Julien will compete in the multi-bout card, which the promoter boasts will be filled with can’t-miss action.

“Caged Warrior Championship 7 will be full of action,” Verdin said. “We have a good lineup on this show, which will include plenty of local fighters. We always look forward to all of the fighters from our area competing in the cage, and we think this is going to be a great show that people will be able to come out and enjoy.”

The main event to the card will pit a hometown boy against a fighter from outside of the area – a scene that always creates a wild, raucous atmosphere inside any fighting venue.

Verdin said that the show will be headlined by Cut Off native Jordon Plaisance, who will compete against Texas’s Igor Pontes.

The promoter praised Plaisance’s fearlessness in the cage, noting that several of the main eventer’s fights in the past have been loaded with haymakers and action.

“Jordan has so much heart,” Verdin said. “He keeps getting better with every fight and he puts on a real good show in that cage. He’s the perfect guy to headline this show, and I think that fight is going to be a very, very good one.”

Plaisance said he’s been working harder for this fight than any other in his career. He said that his training camp has gone well, and he has “no doubt” that when July 31 arrives, he will be itching to battle.

“My training is going really well,” Plaisance said. “I’ve been eating really healthy and training as hard as I can. I feel good.”

Of course, it’s no secret that Pontes will have to beat both Plaisance and the will of the screaming fans who will be rooting for the hometown boy every step of the way.

Plaisance said that fighting at home is a thrill that’s hard to be described. He said that he respects Pontes’ ability, describing him as a solid Jiu Jitsu fighter. But Plaisance also believes that those skills won’t matter, because he’ll overcome them all – thanks to both his own talent and the power of the hometown crowd.

“It’s a big rush fighting in front of my friends and my family,” Plaisance said. “That’s why I do it – it’s a great feeling. His team focuses on a lot of Jiu Jitsu, but I’ll be ready for whatever they throw at me. I’d like to say to my opponent, ‘Come at your best, be ready for a fight and the best of luck to you.'”

But Verdin said the beauty of Caged Warrior Championship 7 is that the card will be entertaining throughout, and that fans will be treated from opening bell to the final bell.

In the co-main event, “The Pit bull Ricky Folse will look to avenge a loss to Oklahoma’s Marvin Babe in a rematch.

The two fought the first time on Aug. 17, 2012 with Babe scoring a first-round submission.

But Verdin said that Folse has been training harder than ever and the second bout will be more competitive than the first.

The promoter would know better than anyone. Verdin fought Babe in June 2012 and beat him by TKO.

“The Pit bull is better prepared for this one than he was the first time,” Verdin said. “It’s going to be a really good fight.”

Also featured on the show will be a 185-pound Caged Warrior Championship Title fight between two locals – Smith and St. Julien.

“That’s going to be a battle,” Verdin said. “Whoever wins that fight is going to deserve to hold that title.”

Verdin said tickets for the show are doing well, but there are still some available. Seats can be purchased by calling (985)-873-5722 or by going to www.inyaface.us. Verdin said folks can also order tickets on the In Ya Face Fight Productions Facebook page or simply through Verdin’s social media, as well.

Both Plaisance and the promoter said that local fight fans won’t want to miss this one. Verdin said shows like these are the bread and butter of his business. He said that while other promoters like to focus solely on the bottom line and making money, his No. 1 focus is on giving the fans top-notch quality entertainment – something that will never change.

“Our fans are most important,” Verdin said. “We have evolved with our growing sport. We’ve improved with every show, and we’ll continue to get better so that we can put out a product for everyone to be proud to be a part of. We have great sponsors, too, and we’re super thankful for everything they do…. This is going a great night and we want everyone interested in enjoying a funfilled event to come out and share it with us.”

Dut Off native and mixed martial artist Jordon Plaisance poses after one of his fights this past year. Plaisance is the main event attraction for Caged Warrior Championship 7, which will take place at the Cut Off Youth Center on July 31. Plaisance will take on a fighter from Texas.
