Bollinger announces promotions

Bollinger Shipyards announced the promotions of three key leaders last week.

Tim Martinez was named executive vice president of the repair division; Scott Theriot, executive vice president of sales and marketing; and Corey Phelps, general manager of Bollinger Morgan City (BMC) and Bollinger Amelia Repair (BAR).

“Here at Bollinger Shipyards, we are excited for the future of our company,” President and CEO Ben Bordelon said in a press release. “We will be strengthening our position in the market by developing our team from within and capitalizing on the talents of our proven leadership group.”

Martinez began his Bollinger career in 1996 and has steadily assumed roles of increasing responsibility since. In 2006, he was promoted to division general manager for BMC, and assumed responsibility for BAR in 2008. Martinez was named vice president and general manager of BMC and BAR in 2012.

Bollinger said Martinez’s knowledge of the company’s repair market and customer base combined with his strong leadership style and total commitment to safety, quality and customer service will be an asset to the entire repair division.

Theriot has been a contributing member of Bollinger’s senior management team for a total of 25 years. Since 2008, he has served as the vice president and general manager of Bollinger Lockport New Construction (BLN). Theriot brings to the table proven leadership and a strong knowledge of the company’s markets for both repair and new construction that will benefit and support marketing and customer relations efforts, according to Bollinger’s president.

Phelps joined Bollinger in 2003 as an assistant estimating/project coordinator and has since risen steadily through the ranks. In 2012, he was promoted to operations manager for BMC and BAR, a position that prepared him for his latest promotion. Bollinger said Phelp’s proven ability to manage multiple projects and priorities will serve him well as he takes his new leadership role with the repair divisions in Amelia.

Lorio is charged with helping the 131-year-old organization develop business opportunities across all lines of business, enhancing client services and reinforcing the bank’s nationally rated stability.

NSU president appointed to SACSCOC

Dr. Bruce Murphy, president of Nicholls State University, has been elected to the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) board of trustees.

Murphy, who will serve a three-year term, was elected during the Commission’s College Delegate Assembly meeting in December at the SACSCOC annual meeting in Nashville, Tennessee.

“It is an honor and a privilege to be selected to serve on the board of trustees at SACSCOC,” Murphy said. “This peer review organization furthers the best ideals of higher education in support of students.”

SACSCOC serves as the recognized accrediting body for more than 800 degree-granting higher education institutions in 11 southeastern states. Its mission is to assure the educational quality and improve the effectiveness of its member institutions. As one of 77 trustees on the governing board, Murphy will be responsible for determining commission policy, reviewing and making decisions on the accreditation of institutions and serving as a liaison between membership and commission staff.

Murphy previously served on the SACSCOC board of trustees from 2006-11 and on the Appeals Committee from 2011-13.
