The look on Larose native Ed Orgeron’s face said it all.

After years of questions about his qualifications to be LSU’s coach, months of scrutiny about his offseason hires and weeks of experts picking against the Tigers in early-season games, finally-at last-the coach got to laugh last.

So he did.

LSU heat Auburn 22-21 on Saturday afternoon, arguably the biggest bead coaching win in the career of Orgeron, a South Lafourche High School graduate and longtime collegiate coach.

As the game-deciding field goal sailed through the middle of the uprights off the right leg of Cole Tracy. Orgeron was seen-smilling and laughing with a uniformed officer who was assigned to walk Orgeron to mid field to shake hands with opposing coach Gas Malzahn.

After the game. Orgeron deflected talked about what the win meant for his career and job statue with LSU, deciding instead to talk about the hard work of his players and coaching staff in the days leading up to the win.

“Give our coaching stuff credit” Orgeron said. “We never gave up. We always thought we were going to win the football game. A lot of things went well, a lot of things didn’t go well, but we won the football game. We are 3-0. That’s the reason we came and we were playing. Give credit to our players, our coaches and our leadership of our football team”

With the win* LSU is now starting to get credit on the national scale.

The Tigers are ranked No 6 in the latest polls, a steep climb from in the 20s where the team was ranked to start the season.

So-called experts said before the season that the Tigers would be fortunate to win 6 games with the tough schedule they’re being asked to play.

But so far ifs three games, three wins and a happy Cajun coach, who said his boys won this one for Louisiana..

“It was an emotional game for our players and our coaches ” Orgeron said. “We knew it was going to take all we had and it did”
