Attention LSU fens: After close to a decade of searching, the Tigers may have finally found their quarterback of the future.

LSU held a spring scrimmage this past weekend in Baton Rouge – the final spring practice for the team before it dismissed players for a week for spring break.

Coach Ed Orgeron said offense ruled the day, adding that the Tigers passes for 431 yards and three scores on the afternoon – a sight for sore eyes for an LSU team that’s struggled to stretch, the field for several seasons.

“I thought the offense had a tremendous day,” Orgeron said.

“The quarterbacks made tremendous improvement today and it was due to the protection of the offensive line. I thought the offensive line did a good job of protecting the quarterback. It wasn’t perfect, but we made tremendous improvements”

LSU played three quarterbacks primarily in the scrimmage and one stood brighter than the others – at least statistically.

Sophomore Myles Brennan had a huge showing in the scrimmage, completing 12-of-16 passes for 224 yards and two touchdowns, including on 80-yard strike to receiver Racey McMath.

Orgeron has not yet named a starter for the 2018 season, but Brennan Is expected to be the leader in the clubhouse over redshirt freshman Lowell Narcisse and junior Justin McMillan.

Brennan was the team’s primary backup last year and was one of the beat high school quarterbacks in the history of high school football in Mississippi.

McMillan was 7-of-15 in the scrimmage for 166 yards and a score. Narcisse was 6-of-14 for 38 yards. The coaches did not specify who threw the interception for the Tigers’ offense, which is under the guidance of first-year coordinator Steve Ensminger.

“Myles had his best day today and Justin had his best day (last) Saturday” Orgeron said. “Lowell continues to improve. We don’t even have our total offense in. The (QB competition) is going to go all throughout camp and we will announce a quarterback at the end of camp unless one is the clear winner and right now. I don’t see that.”

Orgeron said one of the biggest reasons why he can’t name a starter at quarterback is because everyone is still developing under Ensninger’s a offense and as new elements are added in. it may favor different guys in the competition.

Brennan is a pocket passer, while McMillan and Narcisse are more scrambling threats.

Orgeron said he wants a prostyle offense.

“We need to put a lot more of our offense in to see what they can do.” Orgeron said. “We need to put them into the fire”

Regardless of the quarterback, LSU plans to throw the ball more in 2018 and the reason for that is a loaded receiver carps, which flexed its muscles heavily in the scrimmage.

McMath led LSLFs receivers with six catches for 168 yards and a score, Orgeron also applauded the play of Drake Davis. Justin Jefferson and Stephen Sullivan, who all made big plays during the game.

Orgeron didn’t mention Texas Tech transfer Jonathan Giles over the weekend, but he, too, is expected to be a threat. Teammates have called Giles one of the best weapons that the Tigers have had over the past several seasons.

While at Texas Tech. he 1,000-yard receiver.

But this is still LSU football and the Tigers van games at the line of scrimmage.

Orgeron said the offensive line dominated the scrimmage, giving protection to the quarterbacks and opening holes in the running game.

Halfback Nick Brossette carried for 58 yards In the scrimmage, while Clyde Edwards-Heliaire had 86 yards and a score

Orgeron said the offensive line got their ‘tails kicked”1 in some early-spring practices, but they didn’t falter given a second chance

Defensively. LSU was led by Neil Farrell Jr.. John Battle and KXavon Chaisson, who all had big days.

“”No. 1, it was the protection,” Orgeron said of his offensive line. “(In the first scrimmage), there were some routes that were open and the quarterback could have got it to him, but the quarterback didn’t have the time to throw the football. Today, he had time to throw the football when the wide receiver was open. We got some empty sets and made some plays down the field. Overall I thought it was the direct result of better protection

The Tigers will be off for spring break this week, then will hit the practice fields neat week before getting ready for their annual spring game on April 21.

“The guys have been working very hard and they have been very intent on their days off with film sessions,” Orgeron said. “Overall, I thought it was a pretty good day. We practiced specifics and got better”

Coach Ed Orgerom said LSU’s offense ruled in weekend scrimmage and one of the big keys behind the day was the team’s powerful offensive line. Mytes Brennan had a strong passing day.
