A BATON Rouge man has been arrested in the robbery of a discount store in Thibodaux.

Authorities announced that Glen Barnes, of Baton Rouge, is charged with first-degree robbery in Lafourche, as well as several charges he faces in Assumption Parish, where he was taken into custody.

At around 7 p.m. on March 23, deputies were called to the Dollar General at St Mary Street in Thibodaux in reference to a robbery.


Deputies later learned that a man, identified as Barnes, told the cashier at the register that he had a gun and demanded cash.

He then took the money, as well as a box of diapers and fled the scene in a white car beaded toward Assumption Parish.

Authorities said the amount of cash and merchandise stolen was less than $600 total.


Authorities sent out a description of the suspect and his vehicle to law enforcement agencies in the area.

Within minutes, Assumption authorities took Barnes into custody following a pursuit which ended with Barnes crashing into the police jury complex on La. Highway 1 and Franklin Street.

Barnes was arrested and charged in Assumption for aggravated flight from an officer, felony simply criminal damage to property and three counts of resisting an officer.


He also faces several traffic violations from the Louisiana State Police in reference to the crash.

Barnes is also being held for his warrant in Lafourche on the charge of first-degree robbery.

His bond on the robbery charge will be set at $30.000.
