My first day with, this newspaper was January 4, 2010.

I was scared to death.

I was a sheltered child. I knew nothing shout the world I hardly knew how to drive from Cut Off to Houma

I navigated my car from the Bourg-Larose Highway to our old offices off La. Highway 31.1 and sat in the car for 5 minutes before walking in. The downtime was to cool my nerves and to stop shaking.

Once inside. I was a mess What do I do? Who do I meet? Where do I sit?

And the first person I ran into was a gentleman with a strong Cajun accent who — at the time — scared me half to death, but who is now a dear friend.

“Welcome aboard, buddy!” the man said. “Good hick! You will do great”

The voice calming my nerves was Mr. Harold Cancienne, a Sales Representative for our company and now an eight-and-a-half-year colleague of mine and a trusted friend.

Working with Mr. Harold has been an absolute pleasure — so much so that I felt like I had to pen a few thoughts in our paper as he begins his retirement this week.

Your wisdom and knowledge of the people in our area are incredibly impressive. Your talent for sales is incredible. And your ability to make people feel comfortable in their work space are first class.

I know first hand.

You settled me down on my first day and I appreciate that — so much.

I’ll miss our LSU chats, our Monday morning quarterbacking and all the other conversation.

Best of luck, dear friend!

If you need anything in the next phase, don’t hesitate to give a holler!
