The ketogenic diet known as keto, is gaining in popularity around the country. The low-carb, high-fat diet induces a state of the body called ketosis. Ordinarily, the body uses glucose as its primary energy source. Glucose comes from food such as carts. Your body naturally stores the fat you consume, as it thinks they are not needed. During ketosis, the body produces ketones from the breakdown of fats in the liver. If you load your body with healthy fats instead of carbs, you will burn the ketones as a primary energy source.

Not exactly a fad, the diet has been around for almost century. Benefits from living a ketogenic lifestyle can include: weight Ioss, increased mental focus, increased energy, controlled blood sugars, lower cholesterol and blood pressure.

With any diet, the hardest part is actually learning what is good for you according to your diet plan and what you should avoid. Keto requires a little bit of a math, calculating macros with every meal. It takes a bit of planning to stay within your personal limits each day. An example of the recommended nutrient intake is 70% fats, 25% protein, and 5% carbs. Food you may not consume include: grains (wheat, rice) fruit (apples. Bananas) sugars(honey, syrup);and tubers (potatoes). The keto diet encourages the proper balance of food like meats, leafy greens, high fat dairy, nuts, avocado, berries, and coconut oils. Most meals should include a protein, a vegetable and a side of a healthy fat.

CAULIFLOWER HASH BROWNS.

Ingredients


Cauliflower

• 1 pound raw cauliflower, grated

• 1 tea spoon salt Fritters


• 1/2 cup almond flour

• 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

• 1/2 tsp baking powder


• 3 ounces onion chopped

• 3 large eggs

• 1 1/2 tsp lemon pepper


DIRECTIONS:

1. Grate the cauliflower and put it into a colander, sprinkle the salt on top and mix thoroughly with your hands. Let the cauliflower sit for 10 minutes.

2. Meanwhile, chop the onions and place them into a medium bowl. With clean hands, squeeze the water out of the cauliflower and put the cauliflower into the medium bowl with the onions. Add the almond flour, cheese, baking powder and seasoning. Mix thoroughly. Add the three eggs and mix until incorporated.


3. Place a frying pan or skillet over medium heat. When hot, add 1 tablespoon of oil. Using a 1/4 cup measuring cup, scoop out the cauliflower fritter batter and place into the hot skillet. Push down gently with a spatula to make a flattened pancake. Cook 3 minutes per side. Drain on paper towels.

CAJUN CHICKEN STUFFED AVOCADO

Ingredients


• 1 extra large or 2 medium avocados, seed removed

• 1 1/2 cup chicken, cooked

• 1/4 cup mayonnaise


• 2 tbsp BOUT cream or cream cheese or more mayo for dairy-free

• 1 tsp thyme, dried

• 1 tsp paprika


• 1/2 tsp onion powder

• 1/2 tsp garlic powder

• 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper


• 2 tbsp fresh lemon juice

• 1/4 tsp salt or more to taste

DIRECTIONS:


1. Cut or shred the cooked chicken into small pieces.

2. Add the mayo, SOUR cream, thyme, paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper.

3. Add lemon juice and salt to taste.


4. Combine well.

5. Scoop out the middle of the avocado, leaving just a bit of the flesh. Cut the scooped avocado into small pieces.

6. Place the chopped avocado into the bowl with the chicken and mix well.


7. Fill each half of the avocado with the tasty mixture and enjoy!
