March 2, 2016Lafourche first station to host open house Sunday
Lafourche First District No. 1 Volunteers will host an open house Sunday with children’s activities, station and apparatus tours and refreshments.
The Central Station, located at 112 St. Philip St. in Raceland, will be open to the public from 2 to 5 p.m.
The station will also dedicate two fire apparatus – a hose tender and a command unit.
Southern Shrimp Alliance town hall set for tonight in Chauvin
The Southern Shrimp Alliance, which represents fishermen and others engaged in the shrimp industry throughout the southern states, has scheduled a Chauvin meeting as part of its state-wide town hall programs, at which fishermen will be updated on the state of the industry.
Executive Director John Williams said fishermen, dock owners and anyone else in the shrimp industry is invited at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 24, at the American Legion Hall, 4990 Highway 56 in Chauvin.
The meeting will address the upcoming sunset review of tariffs that are currently in place on imported shrimp from five countries.
SSA will also have updates on issues that they are currently working on that will impact the domestic shrimp industry in 2016.
