USDA hosting annual sugarcane field day


The USDA Sugarcane Research Unit and the LSU AgCenter are hosting the annual Terrebonne Area Sugarcane Field Day from 8 a.m. to noon Friday at the USDA Ardoyne Research Farm in Schriever.

The event is free and open to the public.

Dr. Michael Grisham, location coordinator and research leader of the SRU, will kick-off the event with opening remarks at 8:50 a.m., which will be followed by a field tour of the research farm. The program will continue with presentations by ARS and LSU scientists, as well as industry partners at the Sheriff’s Terrebonne Parish Regional Training Facility. The program concludes with lunch.


The USDA Ardoyne Research Farm is located at 501 Bull Run Road in Schriever.

Vitter bill would aid business


Legislation to help small businesses recover more quickly from disasters has been introduced by U.S. Sen. David Vitter, R, La.

Senate Bill 1470, the RISE After Disaster Act, would provide long-term recovery loans to small businesses through community banks, direct federal agencies to use local contractors, authorize counseling and other assistance to help small businesses recover and get back online.
