Senior wins long jump title for Nicholls track

Nicholls State University senior Kyesha Thomas continues to be able to jump deeper into the sand than her competitors.

The senior track standout won the long jump title for the Colonels this past weekend at the Leonard Hilton Memorial meet, hosted by the University of Houston.

In the meet, Thomas cleared 17-feet, 10.75-inches, enough to outpace all of the other competitors and earn the first prize.

The long jump success was part of a big day in the pit for the Colonels, as teammates Sakinah Abdul-Aziz and Courney Crawford also finished well, finishing fourth and fifth, respectively, in the long jump.

In triple jump, Ashley Wheeler placed fourth, while Celina Banks was sixth.

The Colonels return to action in their indoor season on Jan. 27 at Arkansas State.
